      Introduction

      Hi fellow paleontologist-in-training!

My name is DANA, and this is my FIELD GUIDE. And now your

      field guide, too!

Field guides help paleontologists, like us, to keep notes on all the things we’ve learned about dinosaurs. AND THERE IS SO MUCH

      TO LEARN!!!

In fact, we’re still learning new things about dinosaurs EVERY DAY. One of the reasons I like LOVE dinosaurs so much is that we don’t know everything about them yet. There’s still so much to DISCOVER!

Everything we know about dinosaurs comes from studying

their fossils and then comparing them to animals that are alive today. After that, it’s time for my favourite part: COMING UP

      WITH A THEORY!

Inside my field guide, you’ll find my notes on a ton of dinosaurs and some of the experiments I’ve conducted on them. These are my THEORIES based on what I’ve learned, observed, and imagined.

My hypothesis is that if you like dinosaurs, you’re going to love this field guide.

And sometimes our theories or what we thought we knew about a dinosaur are proven wrong. Which is why it’s important to KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS. Otherwise, we’ll never learn anything NEW.

There are many, MANY, MAAANNNYYY more experiments to do. Especially as you come up with your very own DINO QUESTIONS.

Paleontologists have found over seven hundred different dinosaurs! Thirty-six of my favorite ones are in this field guide, but there are HUNDREDS, maybe THOUSANDS still waiting to be DUG UP. Maybe by ME and YOU one day!

So let’s keep DIGGING for new FACTS, new QUESTIONS, and new DISCOVERIES!

      Your fellow paleontologist-in-training,

      Dana
