The engineers and assembly workers at Kar-Kraft are assembling automotive history as these 1969 Boss 429s receive the mammoth big-block engine. It took a team of at least four people to fit the engine into place. Two were above and two were below. (Photo Courtesy Ford Images)

       Frontispiece:

The Boss 429 is a formidable engine, and it was a tight squeeze into the Mustang. It is shown here with an aftermarket air cleaner. The engine draws more air than the factory snorkel does and factory air cleaners are very expensive to replace if they are stolen or damaged. Rated at 375 hp, these engines often produce 480 to 520 hp on the dyno. Race-engine horsepower can be pumped up to 1,100 or 1,200.

This is KK 1737. It has never been restored and has only 15,000 miles on the odometer. It has been part of the Aldridge collection for more than 35 years. It is currently on display at the World of Speed Museum in Wilsonville, Oregon.
