      To My Craig

I am dedicating this book on hospitality to my partner in hospitality for the past thirty-four years: my husband, Craig.

In a marriage, making your home a welcoming place for all who enter it must be a team effort. You need to be in

sync. You may have different ideas or tastes on some things, but together you create your home. And through thick

and thin you experience life together. Your home is a respite for both your guests and your family. It gives you a

feeling of peace and calm when you walk in. You kick off your shoes, put on your slippers, toss down your purse or

backpack, and sink into your favorite sofa or chair. You pat your dog on the head and prop up your feet.

I am very thankful to Craig for putting up with my crazy artistic ideas. There was a time when he would come

home from a business trip and would ask what I had changed when he was gone. Had I painted a mural on the

wall, repainted the entire downstairs, dug a new flower bed, or redecorated an entire room? It is true that I have

done some pretty wild things. He is probably glad I am not as apt to do so much as I was twenty years ago.

I am also grateful that God gave me a person who is so generous. Not only does he allow me to give away

anything I wish, but he has also given of his time and resources to many. I would not even be able to write this

book on giving to others if he had not been so encouraging through the years.

Thank you so much, sweetheart, for being my partner in crime.

      Love you forever,

      Nicki
