Prison Puzzle Pieces 3. Dave Basham
pill run. He also sold some to XX. Check his cell.
The kite was dated the 13th, but action was not taken until the 20th. I have no idea why it took a week before the cell was searched. Pills were found in X’s cell.
CONNECTED NATIVE RAPIST
A convicted inmate rapist who was the son of a high profile political Native from North Dakota was in segregation.
I assumed that it was because of the power that this guy’s father had that he was not harmed.
Anyway, this inmate was housed on the flag in segregation and was tossing paper, clothing and food items out of his cell.
An officer detected the strong odor of feces. The inmate was using his feces to smear words on the walls of his cell. He was efficient in the use of the feces. He was able to write the words “MARQUISDADE,” “FUCK THE WORLD” and “DEVILS THRONE” on the walls. He had feces on his clothes and hands.
Now, I’m not an expert in the efficient use of feces, but I don’t think I could’ve accomplished a task like that if I totally pigged out on Thanksgiving and then ate a package of Exlax. I guess everyone is good at something.
The A-Team had to suit up and go into the guy’s cell with a Plexiglas shield to remove the inmate. Any of you want to sign up to do a job like that?
FECES SMEARER
The feces smearer was eventually moved from seg to B-West.
Here he requested to be moved to Doghouse (D-Hall). This was an attempt to get out of being double bunked.
He told the lieutenant that the “Natives” and “Bikers” were after him.
Obviously, this Native's father was so disgusted with his son that he was no longer protecting him. You can only protect someone like this so long before you would lose credibility; son or not.
He got caught with four gallons of hooch, so he was placed on In House Detention.
Really, there are generally job openings in corrections if you have the desire to deal with people like this or to become aware of the large variety of these kinds of people; really!
NATIVES ARE GETTING RESTLESS
Information was starting to come out about the activities of the Native Americans.
At this time we had 17 natives housed in the block. They were spread out fairly well. There were no more than four of them on any one gallery.
Word was that they had pissed off a lot of the other inmates in the block.
We had reports of the Natives strong arming others; ripping them off of their canteen and other property.
One swamper intentionally got himself fired so he wouldn't have to do their laundry.
A Native that got transferred out of the facility warned us of the Natives corrupt activities before he left.
There was a Native organizer that would be coming back from a special duty soon that they hoped to pump for some information and hoped he would let something slip. Even if they got nothing from him, this would be a good signal to him that the heat was on and they better back off or we would nail them.
NATIVE PREDATORS
An inmate notified an officer that some Natives were threatening him. One of the Natives was telling others that this guy was a child molester. They were strong arming him. Basically, “Pay up or get beaten.”
He asked to be locked in his cell. His request was granted. Video tape was reviewed and two Natives were identified at his cell.
The matter would need to be sorted out by the cell hall lieutenant the next day. It would most likely be the usual accuser’s word against the others denying what they did. With it out there, most likely the predators would back off.
NATIVES VS NATIVES
The Natives were fighting among themselves for power. A faction that identified themselves as the “Native Mob” developed. They were Natives that wanted to be more aggressive than the rest of the tribe was willing to be.
A member of the Native Mob was attacked in his cell by a member of the tribe after he returned from the pill run. He notified staff of the assault but would not identify his attacker as he said he did not want any trouble. He was bleeding under his eye and chin, so he was escorted to Health Services. The assailant was able to be identified on video tape. He was seen going into the cell, punching the Native Mob inmate and then exiting.
Shortly after that, he approached two members of the Native Mob. He punched one of them in the face. The other Native Mob guy helped out his buddy by attacking the assailant. Another tribe member arrived and attacked the assailant’s attacker.
This freed up the first assailant from the tribe to continue his assault on the first Native Mob guy. He punched him until the Mob inmate fell on the tier. His attack changed to kicks instead of punches. The Mob guy tried to stop the assault by grabbing for his leg. He couldn’t grab it and got kicked in the face. He tried to get away, but couldn’t. The assailant got in five good kicks to the Mob guy’s head before he rested a bit, pulled up his shorts and kicked him one last time.
The assailant then went to help out his buddy that was fighting the other Mob inmate. The Mob guy was bleeding from his nose and mouth as the A-Team arrived. They were directed to stop, but did not, so chemical irritants were applied. Everyone got arrested.
An officer grabbed a towel and gave it to the Native Mob inmate that was lying on the tier, so he could try to contain all of the blood coming from his face. The inmate was dazed and confused. His assailant was being escorted past him at this time and yelled, “That’s Native Mob style.” This beating was to give the Native Mob a taste of their own medicine. The Mob guy was cuffed up and taken to Health Services.
As the two tribe inmates were being escorted through A-West to segregation, they were yelling, “Native Mob Motherfuckers! Native Mob bitches!” They were directed to cease their yelling, but continued.
NOT A BOWIE KNIFE
Two Natives lived together in a cell. Both of them were trouble makers and assaultive. A nine inch shank was found hidden in the waste basket in their cell. Guess what time it was. You are correct! It was segregation time!
JOIN OR ELSE
B-West went on one of our many lockdowns. An inmate with a black eye informed an officer that he had been assaulted three days earlier. Some Native inmates had entered his cell and told him that he needed to take care of business or else. His cell mate quickly exited the cell. They proceeded to assault him by punching him in the eye and kicking him in the back.
The officer asked, the Native that had been assaulted, what he thought they meant by “taking care of business.”
The inmate said that they meant that he better join the Native Mob.
At this time a major power play was going on among the Natives. There were the old timers that had always taken care of business in a systematic controlled yet very violent way. Now, the younger more violent Natives were organizing. They wanted to be in control. They wanted to do things their way and were willing to take out other Natives in order to gain control.
HELP FROM OAK PARK
An inmate in A-East was being extorted by Native Americans in the block. He was afraid to say anything, but wrote about it to a friend of his that was incarcerated in the Oak Park Heights Prison. That inmate notified staff at Oak Park. Staff there then notified staff at Stillwater. The Natives had taken his radio, hot pot and four dollars. The dollars
