      Prologue

He watched her approach through strangely luminous eyes; the impossible shade of blue seemed to darken as they traveled across her face.

There was an exotic sweep to her brow, and her eyes were expertly lined like the princes of an age-long past. Those eyes watched him now as she crept toward him, slowly, sensually on hand and knee to where he lie, supine in the center of a lavishly crafted mahogany divan.

Freckles splattered across the fair skin of her breasts; they were small and perfectly formed, delicate hoops dangled gracefully from each tip. She sighed softly as his fingertips explored the rigid peak of that darkened flesh; his fingers whispering over her, smoothing a path of anticipation to her other breast.

His lips followed, tasting her, drawing one hardened tip into his mouth.

“Awe,” she moaned as his fingers sought the apex of her shapely legs. He caressed her deeply, methodically, until she was desperately grinding out a chaotic dance against his hand.

He lowered himself, his mouth seeking.

“God,” she cried, lost now in a maelstrom of sensation far beyond her experience.

Her fists tightened in his long black hair as a low keening sound pushed past her lips. She was spiraling mindlessly toward either heaven or hell, gladly giving herself over to the untamed fervor his touch aroused until a burning pain replaced the raging storm of passion.

She screamed, suddenly frantic to escape him.

“Stop!” she cried, pulling his hair in a futile attempt to drag his mouth away from her writhing lower half.

He released her, pulling her up by her hair, wrenching her head to one side with a cruel twist.

Long jagged teeth sank into her throat, opening a wellspring of hot, pulsing blood. His eyes blackened, contrasting sharply with the pallor of his skin.

She’d stop struggling for several moments now. He eased from her lifeless body, still hard, still hungry.

“Damn.” He should have ordered two.

Her blood made a visually appealing lubricant; he was stained with it from his mouth to his pelvis.

He got up, stretching slowly, as he walked into the room’s adjoining bathroom.

Water erupted from an overhead shower. He stepped under the spray, closing his eyes as the delicious sensations of heat stinging his flesh with a thousand burning needles.

He lathered himself vigorously, washing away the blood and sex, removing all evidence of his sin.

He was due to perform in less than an hour. He opened his crystal-blue eyes, a rare smile curling his sensuous lips.

      Chapter 1

Maggie smiled, dragging her gaze away from the blur of colors racing by outside the passenger window. Her eyes strayed to her left.

Rebekah drove too fast, but she did so with a casual familiarity that was instinctual. She was fearless and tough. Funny, everything she was not.

“Put another one in,” Rebekah spoke up over the loud roar of the engine.

Maggie dutifully unzipped the cd case, flipping through the pages with an unhurried grace, feeding her selection into the stereo’s cd slot.

“You do know you’re obsessed, right?” Rebekah said gravely.

“A bit,” she spoke quietly. Her tone impassive as she looked outside of the vehicle’s side window, a smile of pure pleasure curving her lips.

His voice was unmistakable. His intensity was a tangible thing, and he was, well, beautiful. There really was no other way to describe him.

They were on their way to see him right now in concert. They’d be there in another half hour.

“I wonder what his name is.”

Rebekah flashed her a sideways glance.

“It’s probably something like Maynard or Norton, more mysterious to not have one.”

“Yeah,” she said, closing her eyes as his music washed over her.

“How’s the moxie? You holding up?” Rebekah’s voice intruded like a bell, jarring her tightly strung nerves

      “Yes,” Maggie spoke softly, moving
