      A NOTE FROM THE POET

      Dear reader, I consider thee a friend,

      Therefore I urge thee: do not feel compelled

      To read this book of verses start to end,

      Lest they into some senseless mess should meld.

      On nerdish themes my mind is wont to brood

      Such that thy wasted time thou might’st begrudge;

      The baffled soul who ne’er The West Wing viewed

      Would through the corresponding sonnet trudge.

      Thus do I bid he turn to page eleven

      Who would of Queen Beyoncé gladly read,

      While she who Netflix doth declare a heaven

      Should right away to one-and-twenty speed.

      Pray see my work as but a playful pool:

      Dip in and out, as doth your fancy rule.
