INTRODUCTION
THE MISSING BIKE is an easy-to-read book for children ages 6-9 years. The protagonist, Cherry Lee, is not only a speed racer; she is a valuable detective as well. Cherry must figure out what happened to her friend’s bike when they stopped for snacks at a snack shop. Cherry and her friends learn the importance of having friends, persevering, and following directions.
1. RACING DOWN THE BIKE TRAIL
Cherry Lee tore down the bike trail like a speed racer!
She pushed hard against the bike pedals.
“Wait for us, Cherry!” yelled her friends, Curt Bentley and Rob Brown.
“Slow down, Cherry,” her dad called.
“Okay, Dad!” Cherry said, creeping to a stop.
“How long is this trail?” Curt asked.
“Not long,” Dad said. “Some bike trails are over 200 miles long.”
“Wow! We’ll have sore knees riding our bikes that long,” said Rob, frowning.
“I’m glad this trail isn’t that long,” said Cherry,
“or we’ll have rubber legs by the time we get back to the hotel.”
