you can call upon a particular memory in which you felt this way, that is great. If not, create your own vision of what confidence feels like, allowing yourself to experience every element of this sensation.
Once you have these two images in your mind, go to a neutral place and relax for a few minutes before calling up the first mental image. Then, swap the pictures in your mind.
Repeat this process several times until the positive image begins to feel more natural to you than the negative one. Whenever you find yourself feeling uncomfortable, repeat this mental swap, and immediately are transported to a state of mind that allows you to act in a confident manner, in any situation.
Some tips on how to be a highly confident persuader:
Persuasion Technique # 1: Be unwavering and resolute in your purpose.
You have got to stand by your objective and never let other people forcefully persuade you into agreeing with them. However, this does not mean you remain stiff and inflexible if new data or proof has been presented. Even if you still do not like their idea, at least appear to consider their opinion in your decision. This shows respect and humility.
Persuasion Technique # 2: You also have to be passionate with your words and body language.
When you show enthusiasm, people are more likely to be influenced because you make it seem like you are so sure about your idea.
Persuasion Technique # 3: Never be discouraged.
Prepare your message well and stay focused on your target. Explain to them the valid reasons why you want or do not want to do something. If they stayed silent to make you feel uncomfortable, do not just agree with what they want. Keep your cool. Talk to them again and tell them that your decision is final. If they frown, fold their arms, take a deep breath, or shake their heads, apply the same procedure. Be confident while communicating and stay unaffected by their distracting moves or actions.
Persuasion Technique # 4: Get as much space as you can to be perceived as confident.
Spread your arms and legs in a graceful manner. You will be perceived as an authority in command. However, exuding confidence does not mean you show the world how great you are or boast about your “achievements.” Insecure people do that to make up for their lack of ability or empty feeling. Do not be arrogant. Maintain your confidence at all times, and your persuasion techniques will bring powerful results.
How to Make People Cooperate
You can be a very effective communicator, but getting people to cooperate can be something else entirely.
You have heard the saying, you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make them drink; well, getting people to cooperate is very similar.
You can present them with your plan or with what you want from them, but getting action or agreement is often difficult.
There are ways to make them more apt to cooperate. Read on to see how to make people cooperate with you, without an argument or by using pressure.
Be humorous. If you can make people laugh, you make them feel good. Be sure the humor is relevant to the point you need to make. Make your point, then illustrate it with humor, and then remake the point again.
Always wear a smile. First impressions last, and first impressions created with a smile is definitely an advantage.
Try smiling at every person you come across the street and you will see what we mean. People are more apt to go along with what you want if you are congenial.
It has been said that respect is earned not given. However, always be respectful to everybody you meet, even if you have heard negative things about them from somebody else.
Being respectful to people, and their opinions will serve your purpose well, as nobody will cooperate with you if you are not being respectful.
Build instant rapport with the people you meet. People who can create rapport instantly with anyone can establish good relationships than those who cannot.
Polish your small talk skills with people you meet throughout the day, such as at the grocery store or the server at the restaurant.
Asking somebody about how their day went, or asking about something that has to do with them show that you are interested in them and they will be more willing to listen to you.
Show people how their needs, values, and dreams mesh with yours. To do so, you have to understand their values and concerns.
See things from their point of view. Be sympathetic with their feelings. Then show them how cooperating with you can help them achieve what they want.
Always be genuine when showing interest in other people. Being sincere about your concern for other people will make them like you quicker.
If you are concerned about the people you are trying to win over, if you value their needs and dreams, they will know it and they will reciprocate. They will give you the benefit of the doubt and they will want to cooperate.
Spend less time trying to make people understand what you want, and more time making them feel understood.
In an ideal world, people might make decisions, commitments, and judgments based on logic and sound reasoning.
However, in this world people act in response to their preferences, feelings, and social influence they might not be even aware of.
If they trust you and feel you care about them, they are much more likely to cooperate with you.
The person you defeat in an argument today may be the person whose cooperation you need tomorrow. Arguments make people stake out positions and defend them.
In addition, the more you try to prove them wrong, the harder they will resist you. People may feel overwhelmed and stop arguing with you.
However, that does not mean you have won them over. Most of the time, when you win an argument, you lose an ally.
People often know, although they will not often admit, that they need to change. They feel a vague uneasiness, sensing that things will not pan out the way they want.
However, they persist in doing what they have always done, thinking they are doing the best they can.
Show them a better way, but more importantly convince them that the change is possible. Do not just give them a solution but also offer them confidence.
There is a time and season for everything, especially for asking for support. When people are feeling stressed out, anxious, angry, resentful or threatened, they are not receptive.
Do what you can to reassure them and to make them feel safe and you increase your chances of winning their support.
Look for “moments of influence”, times when they feel capable and confident, and make your best case then.
People’s names sound like jingle bells to their ears. Call people by their names and they will give you more attention.
