How to Hypnotize and Influence Someone Effectively: The Essential Guide to Hypnotism and Mind Control. Valerie L. Paul
there won’t seem to be much after this explanation, it’s actually a lot more to take in than what you’ll think. When you actually reach the point of performing hypnosis on a third party, it’s recommended that you spend one day going through one section.
It’s not because there’s a lot to cover. It’s because you’re going to need time to practice to get it right. You don’t have to worry so much when you perform hypnosis on yourself. It’s essentially the same process, just easier.
Note that these are the basic steps to any hypnotherapy session and that’s all we’re going to cover.
This book is only laying down the foundation for you so you can decide for yourself if hypnosis is right for you. If it is and you want to go more in-depth with the work, then there are other complex books out there, which are written to break down the complexity of hypnotism as well as additional methods for hypnosis.
So, in general, each hypnotherapy session includes a pre-talk, an induction, a deepening, a script, and a trance terminal. Basically, what you’re doing in each session is bringing your client from point A to point B and back to point A. Let’s start by defining what each of those mean. The pre-talk is the beginning of your session. You cannot do hypnosis without a pre-talk.
It is the foundation of hypnosis so it must be done first. When you begin with a pre-talk, you’re simply reassuring your client that they are in control of their mind for the whole session. This is necessary at the start of each session simply because you’re ridding the fear in your client.
You want them to feel comfortable before the session begins and you want them to know that they are always 100% in control of their own conscious.
What you should also do in the first session, and this doesn’t have to be repeated more than once, is to educate your client about hypnosis. Tell your client, or audience, about what hypnosis is and what it can do to help them.
Don’t wait for them to ask you. It’s common courtesy for you, as a professional, to tell them what they should expect from you. This way, they won’t come up with any false accusations as to what you are doing to them and why it’s not working. Think of it as a way for you to give them some mental preparation before beginning.
After your pre-talk, you have to move into the induction. Basically, the induction is an attempt to move your client into a light trance. This is where the hypnotism begins to occur.
Then, it’s the deepening. Don’t expect too much from deepening. The concept is almost the same as the induction. For deepening, you’re only bringing your client into a deeper trance, meaning that your client is going deeper into hypnosis.
Of course, there is still some explanations to be done about deepening so don’t expect to skip the section when you’ve reached it. Once you’ve successfully deepened your client’s consciousness, you may then move on to script.
Now, script is the most important part of hypnosis. The script is the therapy of hypnotherapy, so it’s not something you can rush through. Make sure you pay close attention when you get to that section because it is vitally important. Last is the trance termination.
What trance termination does is that it brings your client out of their hypnosis state. Basically, it brings your client back to reality and makes them fully conscious of their surroundings. This is probably as easy to do and learn as the pre-talk, so don’t sweat it once you’ve reached it.
Now that you have a general idea on what to expect before you begin to learn about hypnotherapy, here are a few basic tips you should keep in mind. Remember that everyone is different. If you are planning on testing hypnosis on yourself first, do not rely on the same method you used for yourself on others.
As a future hypnotherapist, you need to be flexible. In fact, you should be flexible in all your sessions. This isn’t just about making a backup for your backup. It’s about making multiple backups, which you can use to compliment the personality and needs of your clients.
You can also work on speaking slowly and monotonously. Don’t use any pitch in your voice and don’t express your words. Your goal is to bore your clients so they will move into the hypnotic stage.
Also, present yourself as a positive person. If you’re usually a pessimist then you’re going to have to do a 180-degree on yourself for your clients. To get anything done and make progress with your clients, you need to always stay optimistic when they are around.
Hypnotism Misconceptions
If you think about it, hypnosis is basically a first person type of healing. Even in hypnotherapy, you’re not the one really doing the work. It’s the client who is doing the work.
When you talk to your client during their hypnotic state, you’re mainly acting as a guide for them to make their own choices. So, technically, as a hypnotherapist, you’re paid to help and not to actually do. Even so, communication is key.
If you mess up in your communication skills, you can potentially fail or damage your client and you’ll know why later. This is why it helps to have a good imagination at hand.
If you’re usually not a creative person, this might be hard, but there are always ways for you to further develop your imagination. Just do a little research and you’ll find it.
Remember what was said in the beginning of the book about how hypnosis might not be for everyone. Well, here’s another repeat of that fact.
Hypnosis will not work on everyone because there are some people who are literally immune to it. Yes, hypnosis is mainly words. However, not many people will be prone to those words, no matter how good of a hypnotherapist you are.
It’s not something to be sad about if it fails. It doesn’t mean you’re bad. It means that you need to find someone else. So don’t put yourself down because you couldn’t hypnotize someone. You’re not always the problem in this case.
Anyhow, there are only about eight important misconceptions worth talking about, simply because it’s a popular issue in the hypnotism world. You’ve might have even heard some of these misconceptions, which is why it’s on this list.
There are probably a lot more but those would be mainly questions your client might ask you anyway. If you know what you’re doing then you should be able to tackle any future questions from any client.
Stuck In Control
Don’t be amazed if one of your client’s questions might be something along the lines of, “Will I be under your control?” or something like that. Simply tell them no, but do it seriously.
Many people have this misconception that once they’re under your hypnosis, you’ll be able to control and take advantage of them. This only happens in movies.
Remember, this is reality and the logic of hypnotism is just as realistic as life is, which means no supernatural power exists. If your original goal was to somehow gain this mysterious power then that’s too bad because it doesn’t exist.
Besides, it is a fact that when you have a strong desire for something, you will do whatever you must to have it. So, if your client feels strongly about not wanting to be controlled by you then they won’t be.
Either way, you have no dominance over them. Of course, you should make this clear to your client, even without them bringing up the issue. This is because most people will use the fact that they were hypnotized to excuse their poor conduct. It’s possible and should be expected because people are always trying to get away with wrongdoing.
