Academics and Learning Environment
For the B student, the learning environment of a college is just as important as the quality of its academic program. Chowan University has 47 full-time and 26 part-time faculty members, offering a student-to-faculty ratio of 15:1. The most common course size is 2 to 9 students. Chowan University offers 25 majors with the most popular being business administration, physical education and graphic communication and least popular being religion, music and mathematics. The school has a general core requirement as well as a religion requirement Cooperative education is not offered. All first-year students must maintain a 1.4 GPA or higher to avoid academic probation, and a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 is required to graduate. B Student Support and Success
Chowan offers its entire student body a tutoring program located in the campus library. Students request a tutor in any area of study by filling out an online tutor request form. Student tutors work one on one with students to provide this service four nights a week at no cost. Chowan also has Camp 121, a tutoring center that gives students a quiet space for individual studying between the hours of 9 and 5. Individual and group study sessions are frequently held at Camp 121 as well.
