is that one experience does not usually cause problematic anxiety. It is a complicated process that can involve our genes, early experiences, the behaviour of our parents, trauma and/or loss, and the amount of stress we are dealing with at any given time. We would also like you to remember that comparisons to other people are not helpful; others might appear calm and confident, when they are actually feeling unsure and anxious underneath.
One final important thing we want to be clear about is that we think questioning and trying to understand where our beliefs and anxieties might come from can be a helpful thing to do. However, it isn’t always necessary to fully understand what has caused it in order to make changes that make anxiety feel more manageable. Often, to really understand where anxieties come from, we need the help of a person we trust who can help us to build our understanding and this can be a good friend, a parent, or a counsellor/therapist.
