FOREWORD
Our previous publications have been issued with the object of providing for the Occupational, Educational and Recreational fields a joint service of instruction and material supply. They have combined price lists with descriptions and definite instruction in the elements and principles involved in the construction and assembly of the articles offered. The widespread interest and response which these six editions of our Handbook have stimulated, and the consequent demand for a more general and comprehensive manual of Craftwork has encouraged and inspired us to prepare this book, which we hope will meet the desire of the craftworker for a dependable reference, and the need of the teacher for a simplified text.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT
The material found in this book has come from scattered sources and many persons have aided in its assembly. To all of them I wish to express my thanks and deep appreciation for their assistance so freely given.
I am especially grateful to my friends and associates in the Griswold Crafts Shop for their interest and contributions of time and thought in the experimental work on which this Manual is based, also to my wife and daughters who have assisted in many ways.
Recognition and appreciation is extended to the artist, Eva Clark Keller, for her patience and interest in the preservation of skills, and for her graphic portrayals of the processes and technics, each of which she mastered in order to accurately illustrate them.
Complete information regarding our material supply, pattern, and design service will be found in the 1937 Price Lists. These have been prepared in loose-leaf form grouped according to each craft treated in the Manual. A leaflet showing the price lists available will be sent on request.
