       FOREWORD

Glaucoma care in the UK is changing. More than ever before are non-medical healthcare professionals such as nurses, orthoptists, and optometrists becoming involved in caring for patients — carrying out tests, interpreting results, and contributing to management decisions as part of a multi-disciplinary team. To work efficiently as part of a team, each professional needs to have a fundamental understanding of each other’s role. This is particularly important when it comes to speaking with patients, some of whom will be anxious of having been diagnosed with a potentially sight-threatening disease. There are many excellent text-books on glaucoma, but this book fills a gap for a simple and concise overview of clinical glaucoma care. It is written at a basic level that will not be intimidating to the novice, and the compact format will make it easy to use. It will be a useful resource for all of those who are beginning to enter this area and would like to build their knowledge.

       ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I am very grateful to all the contributors for taking time out of their busy clinical schedules to support a well-rounded, useful and relevant addition to the field of glaucoma. My sincere thanks also to Dr Rabia Salman for thoroughly proof-reading the text.

And, as always, our greatest appreciation for our patients who trust us to look after their vision and teach us something new at every step of our journeys.
