      18. For easier access to the parts in the lower receiver, you may wish to separate it from the upper receiver. To remove the pivot shaft, use a properly-fitted screwdriver to take off the cap screw. It will be necessary to hold the head of the shaft on the other side. Grip it with non-marring pliers, or, as I did, just press it against the wooden edge of a workbench. The finish is easily marred, so work with care.

      19. Push out the pivot shaft and separate the upper and lower receivers.

      20. Drifting out the cross pin at the front of the sight unit will allow this assembly to be pushed off toward the front. If this is done, take care that the positioning key, in a recess on top of the barrel, isn’t lost. If necessary, the flanged nut at the rear of the forend can be unscrewed for removal of the barrel. There is also a positioning key at the barrel flange, at the rear. In normal takedown, this entire system is best left in place. The factory suggests that it not be dismounted.

      21. The twin magazine catches and their coil springs are pivoted and retained by vertical roll pins.

      24. Move the safety to off-safe position, restrain the hammer, pull the trigger, and ease the hammer down to fired position. Restrain the hammer and drift out the hammer pivot pin.

      25. Remove the hammer and its spring assembly.

      26. The bushings are easily removed from the hammer.

      27. Further disassembly of the trigger group is not advisable because of possible damage and the difficulty of reassembly. However, in repair situations, it may be necessary to take out certain parts, so we will show the sequence without removal. The safety-levers are retained on each side by internal C-clips. When these are turned to position and pried off upward, the levers can be removed, along with the center shaft and the safety block.

      28. Drifting out this cross pin will release the bolt hold open and its coil spring for removal.

9780896892941_fi_0081_003

      29. Drifting out the trigger cross pin will allow the trigger to be moved forward and turned down into the guard opening for removal.

      30. Drifting out this cross pin will release the sear assembly for removal. Caution: The primary and secondary sears and their coil and torsion springs will be released, so control them. A slave pin and much patience will be necessary for reinstallation. In normal takedown, this system is definitely best left in place.

      31. By sliding off the upper and lower ribbon clamps, it is possible to disassemble the magazine. The winder assembly, however, should not be taken apart. If a magazine malfunctions, it is best to return it to Calico for service.

       Reassembly Tips:
